I acknowledge the Gayamagal clan and the Eora and Darug nations, the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which I live and work, and I pay my deepest respects to all Elders - past, present, and emerging.
Lauren Saunders is an illustrator living on Gayamagal land in Sydney, Australia, with her husband and three kids.
Born in 1981, she wrote and illustrated her first picture book when she was five, and soon afterwards announced that she would be an author or an artist one day.
Years later, she somehow found herself working in jobs that were neither of these things, and bafflingly, she spent most of her days looking at numbers. However, the itch to create never left her, so she eventually swapped her spreadsheets for pencils and paintbrushes, and has been happily drawing and painting ever since.
Her illustrations are playful and full of colour, and she loves exploring the wonderful range of human emotions, and the magic that can be found in everyday moments.
She believes stories and storytelling are at the core of who we are as humans, and have the power to connect us, inspire us and change the world.
In between illustrating, she loves to read, play with her family, and run off to the beaches near where she lives.
